Is There Any Artistic Merit Amidst the Popcorn?

I really don't care how movies are when directors decide how they want to be. If a director is all about selling a movie just to merchandise off of, and for the popcorn sales, movies like Spiderman, or the Batmans. These kind of movies they aimed for families to go to in the theatres, and when families go to theaters you know that they are going to get popcorn and drinks. Movies like that will obviously come out with action figures that the little kids are going to want as soon as they see it and like it. These kind of movies aim for that kind of target, and is the reason why they make these movies. I also believe that it can be for entertainment purposes as well though. I mean i straight up like the action of Spiderman, and the story line behind the movie.

Other movie like The Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter, are the kind of movies that sold mad merchandise, like action figure, and video games for all sorts of game systems. I for one didn't even dig buying any of the merchandise, because i liked the movie for the action and story behind it. It was a epic flick, as well as Harry Potter, which i wouldn't define much as epic, but its pretty good if you want to wish you were a wizard from a magical world or something.

I enjoy movies that open us to new worlds of wonder, much then movies that want you to buy products. Those kind of movies i enjoy watching on a regular basis because they are worth watching. It problem all depends on what type of audience its intended for as well. Disney would for sure make movies and base them on products. A good example would be the movie "Cars", which there were lots of merchandise for. The little kids would die for these kinds of things and make mommy and daddy buy the stuff for them. Movies like "The Bourne Ultimatum" would be a movie that you would watch only for the purpose of entertainment. Unless you found action figures of Matt Damon, these kind of movies are generally for watching.

My thoughts of Teens in the Media

I think teens are portrayed in the media so what we see is how we act. They want us to wear the trends the teens are wearing so we have to buy the clothes, the hats, or whatever else there wearing. This is how the media advertises for there mechandise, and how we fall into the trap of there impulse buying. If we see a sweet skater kid on MTV, i'd be all like, woah! i want that skateboard, those trucks, those wheels, that shirt, those pants, that hat, those socks, and so on and so forth. Then i would ask my mom to give me her credit card like those cool kids on that one show, and max it out for her. That how i would look at it if i was going to be a teen from the media, if i was a follower. In movies teens are portrayed differently, like the movie Superbad, there is that very nerdy kid that gets the fake ID and calls himself McLovin. Then there was that fat kid with the huge fro, that tried to get laid at that party, and that other kind of nervous guy that was smarter then all of them. If i looked at these teens, i can probably put faces of my friends on some of them, because i know people that act like that. Teens in the media are how teens today are suppose to be like, because thats where they get there ideas from. If we watched shows with teens that were from the 70's of something like that, then i probably wouldn't watch it as much, because i dont dress or act 70's like. Although i am a big fan of "That 70's Show" because it's just right funny, but i'm just saying what if all the shows were like that. Perhaps the only way this could be the case is if i dressed and acted like a 70's child, then it would be ace.

Teens in today media are portrayed accurately, like but too accurately. If you watch shows like The OC, or The Hills, those kids are super rich, and that lifestyle is how you want live. This is a negative portrayal because this is the life you would wish to live but know you can't because its way out of your league, unless you were born into a family like that. If you watch any other shows, like shows on fox, or something then teens there are portrayed accurately.

First Assignment?

Importance of Media to Me

I believe that media is kind of important in my life. I do listen to music a lot during the day, whether its in my room, or out in someone's car, so its typically there. Movies are pretty exciting, basically the comedies and action packed thrillers, maybe horror, but other then that I don't watch many movies.

Top Three
My first one would definately have to be music. Some of the bands i listen to, like The Beatles, or The Doors, have the kind of music that you can look into and it shapes you up to be a different person. You look deeper then the music to the meaning, and its very nice.

My second would be movies. I like a lot of action movies. Some good funny flicks i enjoy as well, especially movies with Seth Rogen in it like Superbad. That movie makes me want to be a cop, but i know it will never be like how they are in that movie.
My third would have to be books. I read books every so often, but not as much as i would like to. My favourite series would have to be The Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter, it's just cool to picture the world like that, would be awesome. I even had a thing for the LOTR games for ps2, just because it was fun killing orcs and such.

Pop Culture to Me ...
I don't really care much about pop culture today. Its just how i feel, no offense or nothing. People like Kanye West just humiliate themselves in front of millions, and yeah its pretty funny, but deep down i really don't care about them. Those poor people just keep the rest of us entertained day to day. Although i do like new technologies, like cell phones, which make getting a hold of people more simple, and computer, because there fun. I also appreciate SONY for bringing out the ps3.

Desert Island Choice

Favourite - TV Show

My favourite tv show would have to be South Park 140%. That show is so funny, I can watch any episode as many times as i want, and would laugh everytime. Plus in a way it shows some kind of moral lesson at the end, whether it would be Kyle "you know what i learned today... i learned..." and he would go on about some ridiculous lesson.

Favourite - Movie

Would have to be Forest Gump. Mr. Tom Hanks plays a fabulous role in that movie as a mentally challenged guy living through the decades in the US. The sound track on the movie is awesome too, featuring some Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and CCR.

Favourite - Album

For sure my favourite album would have to be The Doors Album (1967). It was the first album they came out with that made them a big hit in the late 60's early 70's before Morrison's death in 72'. The songs on here are the amazing like "Light my Fire", and "The End" (10 min version).

Favourite - Video Game

I don't play many video games any more, if not any, but when i did, i was really into Diablo II Lord of Destruction for PC. I would play that game like 4 hours a day, it was pretty intense. I don't play it any more, but its all good.

Favourite - Book

My favourite book would have to be Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban. That book was probably my favourite out of the whole series. I would for sure go back and read that book again, but i don't own it any more, because i sold my whole set of Harry Potter at a garage sale for 10$. I liked the book because it presented the dementors and they were pretty intense. When he learned the EXPECTO PATRONUM it was so hallarious.
